Description
Your adventure begins with an 8:00 pickup from your accommodation in Reykjavík. After approximately two hours on the road, we arrive at our first stop, the magnificent Skógafoss, one of Iceland’s most iconic waterfalls. Here, a 60-meter curtain of glacial water crashes powerfully to the ground, often creating vibrant rainbows in the mist. You may choose to stand close and feel the spray or climb the staircase to the panoramic viewpoint above for sweeping views of the South Coast.
A short drive brings us to the hidden gem Kvernufoss, tucked inside a peaceful green gorge. Reached by a gentle scenic walk, this lesser-visited waterfall offers a quieter and more intimate experience. In favorable conditions, it is even possible to walk behind the cascading water, making it a favorite for photographers and nature lovers alike.
We then continue toward the glacier tongue of Sólheimajökull, an outlet glacier extending from the mighty Mýrdalsjökull ice cap. From the viewing area, you will witness striking ice formations, rugged crevasses, and a small glacial lagoon while learning about Iceland’s dynamic geology and the visible effects of climate change.
Around midday, we arrive at the world-famous Reynisfjara for time to explore and enjoy a lunch break as well. Reynisfjara is known for its dramatic basalt column cliffs, roaring Atlantic waves, and the striking Reynisdrangar sea stacks rising from the ocean. The raw power of the coastline is unforgettable, and your guide will provide a full safety briefing to ensure a secure visit.
Next we head to the breathtaking promontory of Dyrhólaey, where a massive rock arch stretches into the sea. From this elevated viewpoint, you can enjoy panoramic views across endless black beaches and ocean cliffs. During the summer months from May to August, puffins often nest in the cliffs, offering a charming wildlife encounter if conditions allow.
As the afternoon light softens, we make our way to one of Iceland’s most magical waterfall locations, Seljalandsfoss. This elegant waterfall is famous for the path that allows visitors to walk behind the falling water, creating a truly immersive experience. Just a short walk away lies Gljúfrabúi, a hidden waterfall concealed within a moss-covered canyon. Stepping inside this narrow gorge feels like discovering a secret world, providing a memorable and atmospheric end to the day.
After exploring these final waterfalls, we begin the comfortable drive back to Reykjavík, arriving between 19:00 and 19:30 depending on conditions and season. Throughout the journey, your private guide ensures a relaxed pace, personal attention, and the flexibility to adapt to weather, light, and your preferences.
